The international Nautical Institute is a thriving professional body with 40 branches world-wide and over 7,000 members in over 70 countries.
The North East of England Branch of the Nautical Institute is an organisation of about 200 maritime professionals, who live, work or have an interest in our region.
A substantial proportion of our Members are active seafarers who have their homes in the region and all of our activities are specifically designed to provide easy and regular access for seafarers.
The North East region embraces a rich maritime infrastructure which continues to provide an internationally recognised pool of maritime talent. The range of maritime activities represented in the region is very wide including: ship operations and management; port operations, including pilotage; offshore oil and gas; offshore renewables, as well as maritime legal and insurance/P & I. The region is also home to South Tyneside College, one of the best known maritime training centres internationally, as well as the School of Maritime Science and Technology at Newcastle University
The North East Branch members will always make very welcome any sea-going members or visitors from other Branches or, indeed, any interested visitors.
We hold regular meetings to promote professional knowledge of technical subjects, which creates a powerful professional and social forum. We also have a monthly informal get-together which provides an excellent opportunity to meet old and new friends.
