The international Nautical Institute promotes high standards of knowledge, qualification and professional competence for those in control of sea-going craft and those connected with the maritime profession, both afloat and ashore.
    
The Nautical Institute branch in the North East of England provides a local professional focus in which Members and guests are an integral and welcome part. Membership of the branch is open to any Member of the Nautical Institute of any grade resident in the area and initial allocation to a branch is automatically arranged on first joining.
    
Members from other regions are particularly welcome to join in our activities at any time. We also welcome members of the public to our lectures and talks, details of which are provided on the Diary Page of this website.
    
The territory which the branch serves covers broadly the area from the Tweed, southwards to the Cleveland Hills and stretching westwards about halfway across the country.
